The Embassy in Dublin invites you to an online conversation on biodiversity, ecotourism and conservation
Dublin, (June 18/2020) In 2020, Colombia hosted World Environment Day on June 5th. The Embassy of Colombia in Dublin, in collaboration with the Embassies in the UK, Hungary and Poland, brings this celebration to Ireland with the conversation on the documentary “The Birders: a melodic journey through northern Colombia”. The conversation will include biologist and expert birdwatching guide Diego Calderón Franco (@diegocolbirding); and Carolina Navarrete, Policy and institutional researcher at the Alliance of Biodiversity International and Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) in Colombia.
This event, in the framework of World Environment Day, is an opportunity to discover the exuberance of Colombian biodiversity, in particular to appreciate it as the country with the most bird species on the planet. The panel will discuss birds’ essential role in nature and how protecting their diversity means a sustainable use of environmental wealth.
The documentary is available to watch on-line either ahead or after the event. Both experts, Calderón and Navarrete, will speak of the challenges and goals of protecting biodiversity. The birding community in Colombia is young and dynamic, and it’s experiencing a period of “Victorian exploration” with several species discovered every year, in the words of Calderón.

La Embajada en Dublín lo invita a una conversación online sobre biodiversidad, ecoturismo y conservación
Dublin, (Junio 18/2020) En 2020, Colombia fue anfitrión del World Environment Day que tiene lugar cada 5 de junio. La Embajada de Colombia en Dublín, en colaboración con las Embajadas en Reino Unido, Hungría y Polonia, acerca esta celebración al público irlandés con una conversación sobre el documental “The Birders a melodic journey through northern Colombia”. En la discusión participarán el biólogo y guía experto en avistamiento de aves Diego Calderón Franco (@diegocolbirding); y Carolina Navarrete, Investigadora de la Alianza entre Biodiversity International y el Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical de Colombia (CIAT).
Esta actividad, dentro del marco del World Environment Day, es una oportunidad para descubrir la exuberante biodiversidad que caracteriza a Colombia, y en particular apreciar que es el país con el mayor número de especies de pájaros en todo el mundo. En la mesa redonda, se abordará el papel indispensable que tienen las aves en el entorno natural y cómo proteger su diversidad es una forma de garantizar un uso sostenible de la riqueza medioambiental.
El documental está disponible on-line antes o después de la actividad. Ambos expertos, Calderón y Navarrete, conversarán sobre los retos y objetivos de la protección de la biodiversidad. La comunidad en torno al avistamiento de aves en Colombia es joven y dinámica, y está experimentando una era de “exploración victoriana” en la que varias especies siguen descubriéndose cada año, en palabras de Calderón.
